hand bound book

my latest creation ...

using an old note pad, an old top, an old button ... 

giving them a new life  

olive oil soap

try this recipe for homemade soap

ingredients:

- 500g olive oil or coconut oil (or both)

- 200ml water

- 63g caustic soda

- 20ml glycerin (optional)

- any scent you love ! (I have used eucalyptus oil)

mix the water and caustic soda (the chemical reaction will create lots of heat, so be extra careful!)
then add oil, blend till thick.
add scent last.

pour into moulds, let it set for over 24 hours before cutting.

cut into chunks - it is like cutting soft cheese !

let it solidify, at this stage it can still be moulded into other shapes before it hardens.

make sure it is stored in a shaded and covered place, so it doesn't collect dust. store for 4-6 weeks before using.

as you can see I have gradually moulded the portions into balls - hurry up time !

hand bound book

one sunny sunday with a pot of tea, i decided to make a hand - bound book with my friend victoria. 

our tools were all home-made, and our materials were all recycled.

using an old piece of fabric from a pre-loved skirt, the cover is designed. 

step by step, a book is born ...

and it is the most beautiful book i've owned. because i made it !
